On May 6, 2025, a 13 y/o girl was walking home from school when a man suddenly emerged from between two parked cars and attempted to punch her in the face. This happened in California.

Instead of panicking, she acted fast, taking her attacker down.

What helped her escape unharmed? Three years of dedicated self-defence course training.
That is the kind of real-world readiness we aim to instil, preparing you for the types of unpredictable situations we hope you never have to face but are equipped to handle.

How Our Self-Defence Course Makes a Difference

Here’s how we train your mind and body to respond when it matters most:

Learn to Be Mindful of Your Environment

It’s not possible to prevent every attack, but it is possible to mitigate its impact.
Whether you’re walking down a dark alley or moving through a crowded public place, being on high alert can help you see the danger before it sees you. And that starts with avoiding distractions, such as using your smartphone or listening to music with headphones, so you can fully tune in to what’s happening around you.

In our self-defence course, you will learn how to:

  1. Read subtle changes in body language.
  2. Recognise unusual or suspicious behaviour.
  3. Identify exits and blind spots to escape a threat.
  4. Scan for objects you can use to defend yourself, like keys and a pen.
  5. Trust your instincts and respond appropriately (& early) when things feel off

Don’t worry; this doesn’t mean living in constant fear.
With the principle of zanshin, we show you how to stay calm, confident, and aware so you can enjoy your day while being ready for whatever comes your way.

Work on your Confidence

By consistently practising techniques and sparring—even with opponents who are bigger or stronger than you—you begin to discover just how capable you truly are.

Knowing you can defend yourself in any situation translates to a deep belief in yourself. Limitations, you find, only exist in your mind. That confidence doesn’t just stay on the mat—it follows you into everyday life, giving you the courage to stand up for yourself, take action, and face whatever challenge life brings.

Learn How to De-escalate Confrontations

From a self-defence perspective, your goal isn’t to win a fight—it’s to avoid one.
Sounds simple? It’s anything but.

Staying calm and thinking clearly in the heat of the moment takes practice—and that’s exactly what our course is designed to teach. You’ll learn how to communicate assertively: make your point with confidence and conviction without making others feel disrespected, and diffuse conflicts before they can turn physical.
With mindfulness techniques and visualisation strategies integrated into our curriculum, you’ll stay calm and make informed decisions, even in stressful situations.

Master Practical Techniques to Defend Yourself

Our self-defence course starts with mastery of the kamae, the guard position or fighting stance, which prepares you for offence and defence during actual fights.
And it’s meant to lower your risk of harm.

  1. Hands are held up to protect the weak points: the eyes and the chin.
  2. Elbows are bent slightly and kept close to the body to protect the ribs.
  3. Shoulders are relaxed, usually slightly forward to narrow your profile.

We also focus on functional techniques you can rely on in real situations—like push kicks to off-balance an opponent, sweeps to escape grappling holds, forearm strikes to deflect incoming attacks, and groin kicks to disable an aggressor quickly.

Better Reflexes

In a real-world confrontation, every second matters.

The moment you hesitate—even for a split second—you tip the scale in your opponent’s favour. That brief pause can create openings for an attack, reduce your chance to escape freely, or escalate a situation that could have been controlled.

Our self-defence course helps you develop lightning-fast reflexes, so you’re never trapped in a disadvantageous position. The repetitive drills train your body to respond on autopilot, and as they help you build a body that bends, twists, and turns without limits, you don’t have to worry about muscle stiffness and injury in the aftermath.

Improve Physical Fitness

Multiple studies show that self-defence training can significantly improve strength, speed, flexibility, coordination, balance, agility, and cardiorespiratory fitness.

How does it help you, beyond lowering the risk of chronic diseases?

Our martial arts classes help you improve both upper and lower body strength, allowing you to execute strikes and blocks with more force and control. You can see how it pans out in real life with hands-on scenario-based training in a controlled setting.

Understanding Legal Implications

Knowing how to defend yourself is one thing, but understanding how to do it within the bounds of the law is just as important. Under the right circumstances, it can be a valid legal defence to violent offences like assault and manslaughter, as long as the force used is reasonable and proportionate to the threat.

Under the right circumstances, it can be a valid legal defence to violent offences like assault, manslaughter, and even murder. Yep, you read that right—it’s not a guaranteed acquittal.
But when does self-defence cross the line from legal protection to unlawful conduct?
Understanding the intricacies of the legal system can be a challenging task. That’s why our self-defence course doesn’t just teach physical techniques; we also help you understand their depth and nuances through real-life scenario-based training, so you can make informed decisions about whether to fight or flee when danger calls.

Take Control of Your Safety in an Unpredictable World

Our self-defence course doesn’t just train you for the dojo—it prepares you to stay safe, alert, and in control to respond to unexpected threats in your everyday life.
And we do it with an approach that’s built around you:
